Thought for the Day: Drudgery is the Test of Genuine Character – Oswald Chambers

https://utmost.org/get-moving-2/

Nor are we born with habits— we have to form godly habits on the basis of the new life God has placed within us. We are not meant to be seen as God’s perfect, bright-shining examples, but to be seen as the everyday essence of ordinary life exhibiting the miracle of His grace.

Drudgery is the test of genuine character. The greatest hindrance in our spiritual life is that we will only look for big things to do. Yet, “Jesus…took a towel and…began to wash the disciples’ feet…” (John 13:3-5).

Thank you Oswald Chambers for passing on Godly wisdom!  A servant doesn’t get to the choose only the exciting things to do in life.  He does what his master puts in front of him.  If he trusts his master, he does it with joy knowing that good things will come.

Today is one of those days.  I am tired and don’t feel like dealing with a huge pile of papers on my desk.

This feels like a Word from the Lord for me.

Though I my rejoicing is a bit more manly:)

I can trust the Lord to make my drudgery into something beautiful and train me in His righteousness along the way.

How about you?

  1. Yes, God is teaching me this. I’m finding joy in doing the simple, yet important, things of life. Like doing the laundry or washing the floor. I’m so thankful for the place I am in right now.

  2. Yes, my day to day job is drudgery! But, I’ve read the letters of Brother Lawrence, I want to dedicate even the simplest chores to God. Yet, it is so difficult! I don’t like that the physical, the ‘here and now’, seems to overpower the spirit’s desire in me. God give me strength!

    • I have not read Brother Lawrence, I will have to check it out. Thanks. We were talking about Amy Carmicheal though this morning and her example is also a good one. She sought to work every moment to the Lord and let nothing stand in her way – not the priests, heat, her health or her pride.

Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[a] you serve the Lord Christ.
