Did we ever notice who wipes away our tears in heaven?
Revelation 21:4 is a well known passage in the church. We quote it with joy knowing that in heaven there will be no more tears, sorrow, crying or pain. That alone is just awesome. But we sometimes miss what John writes:
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Who is the He referred to? God.
We tend to think God is far away from us. We may have the picture of God as the grumpy white bearded old man on a mountain. We may think of God as a great dispassionate force in the universe working in myserious ways. It doesn’t matter exactly what our misperception is, the problem is we miss how God describes Himself.
He is the Father. He is the One who loved the world so much He sent His Son.
He will dwell among us.
He is the One who will wipe away our tears. God reaching out with His hand and wiping every one of them away.
Can we imagine what this will be like?
