Choose Devotion to Jesus – Sermon from Matthew 26:14-25

Abundant Life is a Choice

In this passage, the Lord sets out a clear contrast.  Matthew had detailed the amazing devotion of Mary of Bethany.  She has a pattern of always being at Jesus’ feet.  As a result, she is the only disciple who seems to understand what is coming at the Cross.  She anoints Jesus for His burial and Jesus rewards her for it.  He defends her against the accusations of the other disciples.

Mary chooses devotion to Jesus.

In contrast, this same event pushes Judas over the edge to clear betrayal.  God blesses Judas more abundantly than most in history.  He shows Judas the Messiah up close and personal.

Yet Jesus chooses betrayal.

He receives the proper rewards for his actions.
