35 Great Bible Verses about Humility

What Does the Bible say about Humility?

Jesus turns the world upside down during His earthly ministry.  The first must be last according to Him.  The greatest among us must be servants of all.  Blessed are the meek, the persecuted and the hated.  These teachings of Jesus upended the way man views himself and others in life.  They can be challenging to comprehend.  They can feel impossible to put in practice until we understand the Savior behind them.

Jesus is God with all the power and authority that entails.  Jesus humbled Himself and became a man.  He went further and became a servant of all.  He clothed Himself like a slave and washed the feet of the disciples.  He then further emptied Himself and died on the Cross for us.  The Savior was all about humility.  For more on our service, read A Slave By Choice  and God is Love and watch Sunday Sermon – His Power Perfect in Your Weakness

1)  Philippians 2:5-8

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

2)  Matthew 11:25-30

You do not have, because you do not ask.  You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.  You adulterous people!  Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.   Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?  But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”   Submit yourselves therefore to God.
