Sermon Series: Matthew 5:8 – The Pure in Heart See God

The Beatitudes – Our Attitudes for Life

Matthew 5:9 Sermon – Blessed are the Pure in Heart for they shall see God.

The Sermon on the Mount continues with Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the Pure in Heart for they shall see God.

Jesus was not speaking of a totally sinless heart in this Beatitude.  This is great news to us as none of us has escaped the bounds of this fallen world yet.  We remain tempted by the flesh that we inhabit.  Jesus is talking about the decision that we make in our heart on who comes first in life.  Have we made the decision to really follow Jesus?

God gives us a new heart when we are saved by Jesus, one that is not of stone but of flesh. He then gives us the desire to follow Him. He gives us the ability and desire to live a holy life.  This is awesome, but it is not the end of it.  He allows us in our free will to make the decision to choose to love Him.  When we do this, our lives necessarily change – we see God…in our life, in our relationships, in our families.  He infuses everything we do.

The next step is up to us. Do we want the things of the world more than we want the things of God?

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Matthew 16:23

Are we seeing God in our lives?  It may be because our hearts are divided.  Where are our minds?
